***Moved from accidental posting in the sets section*** Did you like the story, and Characters of Bionicle 2008? Did 2008 add to , or destroy Bionicle? Were the characters designed to a top quality standard? Was it a good idea to bring back the Toa Nuva? Was the end result of Bionicle 2008 of your liking? Was the story too short?
This is the topic where you can express your positive or negative views on Bionicle 2008. Personally, I didn't think that it was all that bad, but I have heard a lot of people who completely hated it.

2008 started off amazingly - Nuva were as good as one could reasonably hope for them to be, Makuta had some new set ideas, interesting characters, and lots of new parts, and the less said about the Avtoran the better. First half of the year was very mysterious and 2001-like, with excellent and only mildly fanwanky serials. And then summer came. Rest of the Nuva were unrecognizable faecal matter [IMO], and the Makuta, while still interesting characters and having new set ideas, weren't all that great. The story was as good as before, but Mata Nui's awakening seemed a tad recycled and too easy. The serials mirrored earlier - they were now mildly good and excellently [if you like fanwankiness] fanwanky. For example - more Vezon and portals than you could shake a stick at, alt-Great Beings, and superbrutaka. But then 2008 ended. THE EPICNESS. Good ending. I'd rate 2008 3rd, after '04 and '01.

In a way, yes.
To start, the Phantoka.
Sets: The makuta were great. The design of bats was a wise move. Chriox ws by far the best of them. Vamprah was unique, but that was his only advantage. Antroz was lame. The toa were an epic failure. Lewa was way too tall and had more gray than anything. Same with Pohuatu and Kopaka.
Storyline: Fail. The makuta and Karda nui was okay, but since when is kopaka so talkative? it just wasn't right. Pohuatu didn't retain his old personality, nor did any of the toa.
The Mistika were even worse.
The start, the sets. The toa were NOTHING like the old forms. And gali was more silver than anything. Onua was tall, and none of the characters retined their perosnalities. Krika was nice, but gorast was nothing but a parts pack. Bitil was okay, but too many colors.
In the end, I wasn't impressed by 2008. Maybe it will be better in 2009, as it is already, but I think the vehicals will need to change drastically.

Lego did not seem to try to event remotely retain the old Nuva's characteristics, or looks. The colors were too much grey/silver, and not enough of their elemental color..... Set wise not the best year , other than the makuta (a great idea)

Even if, the makuta still weren't the best of all things. The phantokuta had giant chests, and the mistikuta were great for parts.
2009 is much better now.
Also, the story was too confusing. Greg went a bit overboard.

Most of the story was bad/predictable. And most of the sets were horrible. But we did have 7 golden gems of sets.
Mostly crap set/story wise but a few gems.

I thought it would be more appropriate here .

I think it was average. I have seen much better, such as the Ignika, but most of them looked fine (except for the white guy, he always looks ugly) ,and the storyline was average.

I think that 2008 was a good year made up of really good parts and not so good parts, both in set and story.
The return of complicated builds in the large sets was great, although there were also let-down sets like Vultraz.
The story was good, and we definitely learnt a lot, but I think we lost a lot by learning a lot. The entire realm of the MU was explained, with the only parts that weren't explained were deemed uninhabitable anyway. Also, the possibility of Alt-Universes just took away so much meaning to characters, as well as the many unnecessary deaths to ex-set/set characters. The Makuta didn't have to die, they could've just been locked up elsewhere.
Finally, I think 2008 took the whole "non-sets can't appear in visual media" to the extreme, by omitting any interaction with the Karda-Nui Matoran villages and by drawing Dume in movie form and by keeping the Toa Nuva in Flight-form whilst in Metru-Nui. They showed plenty of non-set characters in set form in 2001-2004, and they're doing it again in 2009, so I'm really annoyed that they didn't do it in 2005,6,7&8.
